The United States issued a highly efficient highlight LED drive, saving space and cost

Maxim Integrated Products launched MAX16819/MAX16820 efficient LED driver for driving high brightness light-emitting diode (HB LED), suitable for construction, industrial and automotive lighting applications. MAX16819/MAX16820 HB LED driver requires only a few external MOSFET and passive devices, can drive up to 3A current LED. Each device can drive up to 6 series LED, providing output power from 1W to 25W above, efficiency up to 94%. The device features a miniature 3mm x TDFN package, which is capable of operating in a wide operating voltage range with a minimum size LED driver for the 3mm device. At the same time, large voltage current sense amplifiers and switching frequencies up to 2MHz will further reduce the number of space and component requirements. This series of highly integrated devices, reduces power loss and improves the reliability and reduces production cost, making it ideal for such MR16 LED (for example MR16 to replace the traditional halogen lamp) and lamp source and automobile lighting lamp (RCL, DRL, and the fog).

Unlike the general Buck Controller commonly used to drive the HB LED, the MAX16819/MAX16820 driver uses hysteresis control. Through this drive control technology, can ensure the fast transient period during the PWM dimming response and turn-on / turn off time, PWM dimming using special DIM input to achieve wide dimming range (up to 5000:1) or high dimming switch frequency (up to 20kHz). Hysteresis control has a high input power rejection capability, and has a fast response during LED dimming. The device does not need to control the loop compensation, simplifies the design and reduces the number of components.

The high side current detection function of the series driver makes the device essentially different from the standard buck PWM controller. Due to the pressure drop of the external leakage current is only 200mV, the power consumption of MAX16819/MAX16820 is reduced. In addition, high side current detection and integration of the current regulator circuit reduces the number of external components, while the output current accuracy of LED + 5%. MAX16819 and MAX16820 do not need to use external capacitors, respectively, with 30% and 10% current ripple.

The wide input voltage range of MAX16819/MAX16820 (4.5V to 28V) of the device is optimized and can be used in devices such as lighting, architectural and environmental standards in different input voltage, and can ensure that the cold start is compatible with automotive applications and load rejection. This series of LED drivers provides operating temperature range of -40 DEG C to +125 DEG C, using a miniature, 3mm x 3mm, 6 lead TDFN package with an exposed pad. The price of the device is $0.58 (1000 chips, us FOB).
