According to a report published on IC Insights before 2005, total sales of pure foundry market is expected to be $16 billion 920 million, only 1% higher than in 2004. The market research firm pointed out that, in comparison, in 2004 the world's pure foundry market sales increased by 45%, the overall IC market grew by 28%.
The global foundry market 2004, TSMC (TSMC) way ahead, ranking the leading position, the 2004 sales of $7 billion 600 million, up 31%. Taiwan, the United States (UMC) ranked second, sales of only half of TSMC, $3 billion 900 million. Chartered Semiconductor (Chartered) in 2004, although sales increased by 52%, but only $1 billion 100 million. At the same time, IC Insights pointed out that the global foundry layout in the three generation factory pattern has now become a "big", that is, TSMC, the United States, SMIC and chartered. SMIC 2004 sales grew 166%, reaching $975 million.
IC Insights gives the 2005 foundry estimates rankings. According to the company expects in the expected $16 billion 920 million market in 2005, TSMC will account for 47% share, sales growth of 3% to 7 billion 880 million U.S. dollars; UMC will account for 19% share of sales; SMIC will reach $1 billion 270 million, instead of Chartered, ranked third. The Chartered semiconductor market share will be 6%. In addition, it is expected that China's semiconductor sales will grow by 58% in 2004 to $300 million.
IC Insights estimates that by 2009, China manufacturers share in the foundry in the market rose from 20% to 12% last year.
