The introduction of the compact linear independent linear single lithium ion battery charger

Corporation introduced a compact linear independent single lithium ion battery charger LTC4061. The device has advanced functions such as improving charging safety, simplifying charging termination and status reporting, and extending battery life. For safety purposes, the LTC4061 has a thermistor interface that is suitable for charging at a suitable temperature, an adjustable timer that is used as a backup charge termination and an accurate floating voltage to prevent the battery from overcharging. In order to eliminate the risk of overheating at the maximum rate of charge, the patented thermal circuit can keep the junction temperature of LTC4061 at a safe level.

In addition, the I/O pin is capable of reporting the charging status in the filament current, normal and charge end mode, and indicates the presence of a AC adapter or faulty battery. The LTC4061's smart start (SmartStartTM) feature eliminates unwanted recharge cycles to extend battery life. The integrated circuit has 4 charging termination methods, namely, user adjustable current and time, external digital control and automatic C/10. LTC4061 uses 3mm x DFN 3mm package, very suitable for wall adapter or USB for MP3 players, digital cameras, PDA and battery charging in the cellular phone.

LTC4061 can be charged to 4.2V and the new 4.4V floating voltage lithium ion battery with accuracy of + 0.5% and + 0.35%, respectively. The utility model has the advantages of no need of external detection resistance, MOSFET or isolation of two levels, which greatly simplifies the design. In addition, the LTC4061 also includes a soft start circuit to minimize the inrush current at the beginning of the charging cycle. In terms of charging by the USB, the logic pins of the USB controller can select the charging current, eliminating the dependence on the external components. After the battery is fully charged, LTC4061 enters standby mode. Because of the frequent recharge cycle to reduce the battery capacity and shorten the battery life, so only when the battery voltage drops to less than 4.1V when the smart start function to recharge the battery. This feature reduces the number of unnecessary charging cycles and extends battery life. At any point during the charging cycle, the LTC4061 can be turned off, thus limiting the battery leakage current below 2uA.
