In addition, the structural integrity of flexible printed circuits in traditional NFC systems is not high, so the use of flexible printed circuits in electronic devices makes the production and / or operation of the higher risk. For example, flexible printed circuits may require other components to be fixed in the device, so that the occupied space will be more. And if the flexible printed circuit is loose, it may be disconnected from other electronic components, and even affect the connection of components on the flexible printed circuit. These problems make apple had to seek other programs, such as sapphire antenna structure.

According to the introduction of Apple's patent documents, the use of sapphire structure in electronic equipment to form a wireless communication system antenna will be able to greatly reduce the overall size of the antenna. By reducing the size of the antenna, the interior of the device needs to be reserved for fewer antennas, so that other components, such as batteries, will be able to get more space. And the sapphire structure of the antenna may also be customized configuration (such as shape), which can be placed in different places inside the electronic device.

In addition, because the sapphire structure is very stable, so compared with other antenna structure, this structure is placed in the electronic equipment in the difficulty of a lot of small, but also can greatly reduce the possibility of the antenna and other parts of electronic equipment is disconnected, the possibility of sapphire structure was destroyed is smaller.

Apple said this antenna structure is not only suitable for smart phones, Apple Watch, MacBook, iMac, iPad, iPod, gaming equipment and health monitoring devices can use the above sapphire structure antenna.
