U.S. House of Representatives voted to continue to support LED lighting

The White House bill 2417 (the light bulb optimization act, which is referred to as Bill 2417), which has been approved by the house of representatives in, has not met the need to repeal the bill in 2007. The bill passed in 2007 (energy independence and Security Act) stipulates that, 2012-2014, the light output range of 310-2600lm in general lighting will be subject to new energy consumption standards. At present, 100W, 75W, 60W and 40W incandescent light output in the case of constant energy consumption will be limited to not more than 72W, 53W, 43W and 29W. That is, from 2012 onwards, the use of LED lights, such as the need for more efficient 100W bulbs.

On Tuesday, the house of Representatives voted for the Republican Party's proposed 2417 bill, which Republicans say the government should not legislate on what type of light bulbs citizens should buy. The proposal was not supported by 2/3 votes, not enough to repeal the legislation adopted in 2007 through the use of efficient bulbs from the beginning of 2012, which is good news for supporters of LED solid-state lighting.

The house of Representatives supported the bill by 233 votes to 193. The vote was largely based on the number of Party members in the house of Representatives, although 10 Republicans voted against it, while the Democrats voted for the 5.

The new proposal is contrary to the rising green movement. In the United States, the energy consumption of lighting accounts for more than 20% of total energy consumption. Most people consider reducing lighting energy consumption as one of the easiest ways to save energy. However, due to the high price of solid state lighting products, it is necessary to achieve a longer service life to make up for the high cost of replacement.

Energy independence and Security Act (EISA) issued by the Republican Party

Ironically, the energy independence and Security Act (EISA), which was signed by President Bush in 2007, was signed by President W- in a bid to use more efficient bulbs. The provisions of the bill, to achieve 100W or luminous flux of 1700 lumens lamp efficiency should be increased by more than 30%.

In the next few years, the luminous efficiency requirements will be gradually extended to 75W, 60W and 40W lights. A set of more stringent standards for the use of efficiency standards will be implemented in the next ten years. Energy independence and Security Act does not prohibit the use of incandescent lamps, but the proposed energy efficiency standards only solid state lighting products and compact fluorescent lamps can be achieved.

Under Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, including conservative celebrity pressure, though, in fact the lighting products can save large amount of energy, but the Republicans?? still trying to allow citizens to obtain the free choice of lighting products right. An editor at the BostonHerald.com site joined the opposition camp and called for the adoption of a new (incandescent bulb) bill.

In fact, many people opposed to the implementation of the energy independence and Security Act (EISA) in lighting, did not fully understand the details of the legislation. Although most of the time, the new bill does not mention the types of bulbs used, a recent article in the New York Times has reported that people began hoarding incandescent light bulbs. As a matter of fact, the energy independence and Security Act (EISA) allows the use of a variety of lamps, including three bulbs and decorative lights.

Supporters of the energy independence and Security Act (EISA)

The energy independence and Security Act (EISA) also has strong supporters who have lobbied heavily for Tuesday's vote. Lighting is a simple way to reduce energy consumption, says Jim Hawort, President of Lighting Science group. Lighting energy consumption accounted for 19% of world energy consumption, in the United States, the proportion reached 22%; 60% public and commercial building energy consumption for lighting, up to 80% of the offices are in the use of outdated and inefficient lighting systems; lighting electricity accounted for 15% of household electricity consumption. Only 4 billion 400 million of the traditional lighting fixtures for efficient lighting, it can quickly save billions of dollars in energy consumption.

Of course, most supporters have a certain interest driven. Lighting Science Group (LSG) is expected to become a major player in the LED alternative light market. In addition, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association has been lobbying for energy independence and Security Act (EISA).

California and Texas

Whether this is the official statement on the energy independence and Security Act (EISA) is not clear, but the United States has begun to legislate the federal states - a far cry from their respective directions. California has passed legislation to the energy independence and Security Act (EISA) ahead of this year to start the transition. Instead, Texas has made it clear that it will allow the production and sale of incandescent lamps. In July, the United States passed a bill that would allow the Texas production of lamps to be exempted in principle in the energy independence and Security Act (EISA).
