UDC and Samsung mobile display to develop high luminous efficiency and long life green phosphorescent OLED assembly

Universal Display Technology (Universal Display, UDC) and South Korea's Samsung mobile display (Samsung Mobile Display) announced the development of a high luminous efficiency and long life of OLED components. The light-emitting part uses UDC phosphorescent OLED material "PHOLED". The power consumption of the active matrix (Active Matrix) OLED display can be reduced by 37% by using the previous fluorescent material as phosphorescent material.

UDC has been in May 31, 2009 to June 5th in the United States held in Sanantonio SID (Society for Information Display) 2009 jointly released the results. The thesis entitled "High Efficiency Phosphorescent Green OLEDs".

UDC, etc., the development of two kinds of top emitting (Top Emission) components of the green OLED components. One is the OLED component of the CIE chromaticity coordinates (0.20, 0.73). Luminous efficiency (current efficiency) up to 110cd/A, when the 3.6V voltage is applied, the brightness of 3000cd/m2 can be achieved. The other is the chromaticity coordinates of components (0.28, 0.69). The luminous efficiency is 160cd/A, when the 3.8V voltage is applied, the brightness is 3000cd/m2. While the chromaticity coordinates of the bottom emitting (Bottom Emission) module with the same luminescent material (0.33, 0.62), the luminous efficiency is only 52cd/A.

The development of OLED components showed excellent life characteristics. At the bottom of the light-emitting component to maintain the initial brightness of 90% 1000cd/m2, the life of 15 thousand hours. When the time of 50% of the initial brightness is maintained as the extrapolated value, it can reach more than 300 thousand hours. While the top light-emitting component, the luminous efficiency of 110cd/A, the life (90% of the initial brightness) of 28 thousand hours, luminous efficiency of 160cd/A, the life of 6400 hours.
