Using blue light to emit blue light to prolong OLED life

White light is the bright star of lighting technology. The US Department of energy (DOE) predicts that in 2020, the cost, efficiency and life index of OLED lighting will have no difference with LED. However, the industry suffers from the short life of organic light-emitting phosphorescent materials.

The OLED luminescent layer is mainly composed of red fluorescent materials, green light materials and blue phosphorescent materials. The three kinds of materials are mixed into white light. The lifetime of one material will decay, and the whole OLED will fail. How to overcome the different life of materials will become a challenge for the industry.

The solution of the "blue light now" is not to use any blue light material, but to make the green material become a blue light source by technology, so as to develop the OLED surface plasmon coupling gain technology PCOLED (Plasmon-Coupled Organic LED).

At the time, when the Institute of light engineering carried out experiments on the luminescent structure of green materials, it was discovered that the green light material had made the impossible blue light. This led the Institute to open up a new research direction. Later, it used physical thinking to design the special structure of the green light material, and constantly adjusted the parameters. The reason and method of producing blue light.

Finally, the planar plasma coupling effect (Plasmon-Coupled) is generated by the DML structure, which can convert the luminescence spectrum of the green material into blue light. The white light OLED can replace the traditional blue light material layer with the green light material. The problem of short life span is solved, even more than 20 times longer than that of the traditional OLED.

In terms of efficiency, through continuous R & D and component optimization, DML blue light-emitting efficiency has been able to surpass the existing blue light fluorescent materials and most of the known blue phosphorescent materials, and achieve 35cd/A. OLED DML white light technology has been verified, it can produce CRI with color rendering (CRI) of 77 and color temperature of 2039 K, which can be used for indoor lighting. And the research institute has successfully lit 10 cmx10 cm large area white light module.

At present, the research team has applied for patents in related technologies in Taiwan, Germany, the United States and Mainland China, and has collaborate with the private sector to further master OLED's key materials and process technology, and move towards industrialization.
