Vishay launches new surface mount ambient light sensing photodiode

Vishay launched the first in line with the AEC Q101 Standard ambient light sensing photodiode, thereby expanding its optoelectronic products. AEC Q101 standard for Automotive Electronics Association released discrete semiconductor reliability test certification program.

The ambient light sensor is the key components for automobile body control and passenger safety applications, can make the electronic system similar to the way the human eye detection and response to light, thereby eliminating the need to manually adjust, and reduced power consumption. These sensors are generally used to easily open, close or adjust the function to save battery power or provide a higher security. Their automotive applications include rain, light and tunnel sensors, brightness control of the instrument panel and the navigation display screen, and the ability to automatically turn on the headlights in dim conditions.

The new TEMD6010FX01 and TEMD5510FX01 using Vishay unique infrared filtering epoxy resin technology, this technology can make the spectral sensitivity of the human eye and beyond the visual range of the lowest sensitivity to match the light. They also offer a very similar response to incandescent and fluorescent lamps, and for the two lights, TEMD6010FX01 and TEMD5510FX01 offer an excellent response ratio of 1.3 and 1.4, respectively. In contrast, the response ratio of the standard silicon infrared photodiode is 10.

Based on the -40 ~ C ~ +100 ~ C greater the working temperature range of excellent batch to batch reproducibility (lot-to-lot repeatability), TEMD6010FX01 and TEMD5510FX01 provide a response to the linear 0.1 lux ~ 100 Klux illumination. Batch to batch repeatability allows customers to perform calibration in the manufacturing process. Other sensors that compete with it can't match the linear response at the temperature limit, especially at temperatures above +85 C.

These new sensors are added to the Vishay existing ambient light sensing phototransistor family, which also conforms to the AEC Q101 standard. These two products comply with RoHS standard, halogen free, and compatible with lead-free (Pb) welding. Currently, samples of these devices have been available, the supply cycle of 6 weeks.
