White light laser technology to achieve or replace LED into the mainstream light source?

According to the latest issue of the International Journal Nature Nanotechnology, the American researchers successfully invented a white light laser device, covering all the wavelengths of visible light range. White light laser can be used in the future display, solid-state lighting, visible light communications and other important areas. In the past 50 years, the laser has developed a variety of colors, with the exception of white. This kind of laser can only radiate a specific wavelength of light and a single color, not the synthesis of white light laser. To achieve this goal, we must create a single radiation structure of red green and blue primary colors at the same time, but the successful growth of heterostructure, each other do not match each other and close to the crystal is difficult, easily lead to all materials have a serious defect.

The nano sheet is divided into three parts, and the red, green, blue and other colors are generated by the light pulse excitation, and then the white is formed. The researcher can use and adjust the light pulse to control the luminous intensity of each segment. White light laser technology covers the color, compared with the general light source more than 70%.

White light laser will become an alternative light source, the performance is better than LED

Laser technology is expected to replace the light emitting diode (LED) as the main light source, compared to LED lighting per watt 150 lumens luminous efficiency, the laser can reach up to 400 lumens per watt, more bright and more energy-efficient than LED. White light laser technology can also be used to display, showing a more precise and vivid colors. In addition, visible light communication is another important application. At present, the main development of Li-Fi LED technology, the data transmission speed is ten times faster than Wi-Fi. With the emergence of white light, is also expected to further develop Li-Fi technology, it is estimated that the transmission speed is even faster than LED ten times to one hundred times.

At present, scientists are still studying ways to stimulate the laser, hoping to replace the optical pulse power in the future.
