Will the European Union let the lighting return to the past? Draft regulations or industry changes

According to LUX media, the EU draft has already proposed a possibility that it might return to the old days of "lighting + replaceable light sources".

According to this radical proposal, the luminaire manufacturer will need to remove and replace the light source from the lamps and lanterns by September 2020.

The draft of the Ecodesign law stipulates that "manufacturers and importers should ensure that light sources and separate controls within the scope of this regulation can be easily removed by the end users without permanent mechanical damage."

"When the end user is unable to easily dismantle a light source and a separate control device, the manufacturer and importer should ensure that the design of the product needs to be easily removed by qualified professionals to remove the light source and separate control devices."

These suggestions, if passed, will have a significant impact on the production of the lights.

In recent years, as LED occupies a dominant position in the market, manufacturers have integrated LED and light sources together, and LED is usually connected to the main body of the radiator or equipment. Many lamps and lanterns, especially those with high level of protection, are all sealing devices.

If this new way is changed, it will be a major change for enterprises that have invested heavily in automation. In addition, the proposed timetable - only 28 months - is also expected to be challenged.

It is also considered that the use of tungsten halogen lamps and compact fluorescent lamps as light sources is effectively prohibited in 2020. The minimum efficiency of all light sources is 85 lumens / watts, and the maximum standby power supply is 0.5 watts, which will begin to take effect.

This point of the law is opposed by theaters and live sites, because these places rely on the main source, such as HPL single - ended tungsten filament lamps. According to the previous law, there is immunity in this field. The association of lighting designers has launched a campaign called Save Stage Lighting (save stage lighting) to counter these suggestions. (Editor: LED network James)
