Event driven processor (event-driven processors?) leading enterprise XMOS company announced the day before has launched the Ethernet LED display unit based on reference design kit. As a result, digital designers are able to quickly develop LED display cell systems by using daisy chains of various Ethernet scan boards. All requirements are fully implemented by software, which can be downloaded on the open source basis.
The LED reference design kit includes a XC-3 scan board and a 16x32 LED (RGB) LED module, which is pre installed with the LED application software, so the digital designer can immediately start the development of their various designs. Additional XC-3 multiple scan boards and modules can be easily inserted to create a complete display device.
XMOS president and CEO James Foster said: "XMOS is to identify and display manufacturers to establish new rules by controlling the operation of the LED software in all aspects, to ensure that the designers can significantly improve image quality and reduce the LED display unique artifacts. Our LED display unit application software royalty free, making XMOS open source hardware system is also expanding. "
Each XC-3 can through the user datagram protocol on an Ethernet network (UDP) to receive video input, video can be directly collected from a personal computer, it uses open-source video player Mplayer (already included in the LED reference design), or from an external data processing engine.
