Product Maintenance

OSRAM photoelectric semiconductor Oslon Black series adds six new models of automotive IRED (infrared light emitting diode). The 850 nm version is suitable for external applications such as night vision, pedestrian protection, front court identification and lane detection. The new 940 nm version is especially suitable for automotive internal applications, such as driver monitoring, seat occupancy detection and gesture recognition. Due to different wavelengths and lenses, these products cover a wide range of customer requirements and operate in a pulse mode with a maximum 5A current.

The maximum pulse current of the new product is as high as 5A, and the previous product is 3A. These IRED are particularly bright, and the output of continuous working hours is as high as 2 W. The six new IRED have different wavelengths and beam angles. The wavelengths of SFH 4715AS A01, SFH 4716AS A01 and SFH 4717AS A01 are all 850 nm, and the beam angles are respectively 45, 75, and 25 degrees. The wavelengths of SFH 4725AS A01, SFH 4726 A01 and SFH 4727AS A01 are all 940 nm, and the beam angles are 45, 75, and 25 degrees respectively. The lens uses high refractive index silica gel, and only a small amount of light is lost from the side to improve the light absorption rate. The maximum operating temperature of these IRED is 125 degrees C.

High light pulse output and multiple integrated lens selection enable system designers to select the correct IRED for any application without installing two optical devices. The infrared light source with wavelength <900nm will be perceived by human eyes as red light. This red light will be heavily suppressed at 940nm.

Like other products of OSRAM Oslon Black series, the new IRED has excellent performance, long service life and excellent thermal performance. "With the product line of Oslon Black series, we can cover all IRED based lighting applications inside and outside the car," said Walter Rothmund, ELS marketing manager of OSRAM semiconductor. The typical performance and compact size of these IRED provide engineers with the greatest degree of freedom of design, and eventually customers will benefit from a new road safety rating.
