2005 global software industry lost $34 billion due to piracy

Business Software Alliance released a new survey shows that in 2005 the global software industry suffered losses from piracy amounted to $34 billion, $1 billion 600 million more than in 2004.

The Associated Press reported that the survey last year, the global PC software piracy rate was 35%, unchanged from 2004. In the case of the same rate of piracy, the increase in the amount of loss reflects the expansion of the overall size of the global software sales.

The report said that in 97 countries surveyed, last year, the number of countries in the software piracy rate declined, the rate of increase in piracy in the country has 19. The report believes that the global software piracy rate remained stable mainly due to the United States, Japan and Western Europe and other places, the basic rate of piracy remained unchanged.

Robert Horryman, chairman of the business software alliance, said that some emerging market countries have made some achievements in reducing the rate of piracy of personal computer software, but still need to do a lot of work.
