A Morimi LED portable drive expansion provides a sense of no sense of two schemes

Leading global power management solutions provider A Morimi semiconductor (ON Semiconductor, NASDAQ: ONNN) recently launched three new white LED driver, designed for mobile phone, digital cameras, MP3 players and other portable consumer electronics backlight applications prepared, for the high brightness LED driver. The energy efficiency of the three new devices is as high as 90%, using a 0.6 mm ultra thin package, which helps designers to meet the requirements of today's battery powered portable electronic devices for power and board space. A Morimi semiconductor low-voltage products business director Marie Capron said: "the driver in portable applications display LED usually adopts inductance solution or charge pump solution, but our customers have very clear preference. Inductor solutions typically use a boost architecture in series LED, the charge pump solution is a parallel LED, and thus no inductor. In order to meet all customer needs and preferences of portable products, we expand the LED drive products, while providing two kinds of solutions, and provide important circuit protection value-added features, but also save valuable board space."

Inductance solution

NCP5010 provides up to 22 V (V) voltage, typically for LCD backlight applications from 2 to 5 series white LED power supply. NCP5010 energy efficiency of up to 84%, off current of a (A), the working input voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V. The utility model has the functions of true cut-off, short circuit and overvoltage protection.

This space saving device uses a flip chip package that occupies a board area of less than 3 mm2 and a height of only 0.6 mm. Its compact size makes it an ideal choice for the thinnest portable products. Its integral pulse width modulation (PWM) boost converter with a frequency of 1 MHz (MHz), and integrated Schottky rectifier, can be optimized with small inductor and capacitor board design, saving more board space.

Charge pump solution

NCP5604A and NCP5604B drive 3 or 4 LED, each LED current up to 25 MA (mA). Current matching tolerance of only 0.5%, to ensure that the LED brightness consistent performance. Two energy efficiency of up to 90%, the quiescent current is less than 1 A, the operating input voltage range of V to 5.5 V, and has a unique short circuit and overvoltage protection function.

NCP5604A and NCP5604B are using the slim shaped QFN package (WQFN), occupies only 0.8 mm space, very suitable for space thefairly precious ultra-thin mobile phone.

NCP5604A uses a lead-free WQFN-16 package, each of the 3000 pieces of the unit price of $0.69. NCP5604B uses a lead-free WQFN-16 package, each of the 3000 pieces of the unit price of $0.66.
