Avid company set up high brightness LED packaging line

With submount packaging line high brightness LED chip is established to ensure the temperature, brightness and efficiency of heat dissipation, Avid ELectronics plans to soon be in production and expect significant sales growth in 2008.

Avid said that the submount packaging line will enter mass production in December. The annual output of the production line is 12 million units, is expected to reach a new year output value of NT $240 million. The company said it had received orders from customers, mostly from Asia and europe.

RendyTu, general manager of Avid company, said it has provided LED samples to a lighting application manufacturer in Taiwan. The company plans to expand its LED field to the automotive market after two years and deploy in low-power LED applications such as backlight.

Avid said in December submounted LED shipments will reach 100 thousand units. With the penetration of LED in the traditional backlight, the company expects shipments in 2008 will reach 80--90 million units. Different types of LED, Avid on the penetration of white LED expressed optimism, white LED in 10 years will be the main components of traditional lighting applications.
