BASF and OSRAM developed 60lm/W luminous efficiency for lighting with white organic EL

German chemical company BASF (BASF) and Germany OSRAM Opto Semiconductors (OSRAM Opto Semiconductors GmbH) has developed a high luminous efficiency of 60lm/W lighting with white organic EL (English released data). Despite the presence of organic EL with the same luminous efficiency, the product meets the international standard "Energy Star" color standard for solid-state lighting fixtures. BASF and other companies, said the company had not yet met the standard lighting with organic EL.

The stability of the color temperature is improved by using phosphorescent metal complexes in luminescent materials. In the future will also improve the stability of blue light-emitting material to extend the life of organic EL. "The development of stable blue light-emitting materials, for the realization of luminous efficiency of more than 100lm/W of the organic EL lighting up the road" (BASF Future Business).

The development is based on the OLEDs for on the Lighting Market (OPAL) project, the project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of education and Research (BMBF), jointly developed by BASF and OSRAM optoelectronics.
