Billion light, LG Display and Rui Xuan technology in China set up LED packaging plant

LED package (Everlight ELectronics) of Dachang Everlight Electronics announced that the company plans to partner with LG Display and Ruixuan Technology (Amtran Technology) to set up a new company, is committed to the development of TV with LED backlight. The joint venture has a capital of $30 million, will set up a packaging plant in Jiangsu, Wujiang, China, and plans to start mass production by the end of 2010.

The joint venture will enter a high demand LED backlight market. Last week, the market research firm iSuppli analyst reiterated that for TV applications LED shortage will continue until this year. ISuppli predicts that this year, large-size LED backlight LCD panel shipments will reach 276 million 700 thousand, by 2011, the number of shipments will grow to 477 million 600 thousand, by 2014, shipments will reach up to 817 million 900 thousand.
