Cambridge display technology (CDT) and p-i-n (Sumitomo Chemicals) both for polymer organic light emitting diode (P-OLED) major manufacturers, while NovaLED is the leading manufacturer of high efficiency OLED products and doping materials. The three party has signed a joint development agreement, the feasibility and effectiveness of cooperation on new materials and products in the PIN OLED on P-OLED device.
CDT, Sumitomo chemical and Novaled now plan to develop a hybrid OLED device, the new polymer light-emitting layer and the doping of the electron transport layer. It is expected that such hybrid devices will be able to improve power efficiency without increasing the complexity of production. The three parties have reached an agreement on the disposal of intellectual property resulting from the joint development agreement (JDA). In addition, Novaled will authorize CDT to add the necessary intellectual property of Novaled devices to its existing and future licenses. Each company needs to be responsible for the marketing of their respective materials in the joint development activities.
CDT CEO David Fyfe said: CDT will continue to focus on supporting the P-OLED supply chain, but also very pleased to participate in another joint development plan. This project has the potential to create new materials and better device performance for our licensees. "
Sumitomo new chemical business development department general manager Kazuhiko Miyata said: "the success of the joint development agreement between CDT and Novaled will bring new materials and devices, and will be used in future product plans, we feel very excited. With the support of CDT and Novaled, the two leading companies in their respective fields, we can launch a variety of new products to the market. "
Novaled Novaled Sorin, CEO of Gildas, said: PIN OLED technology to become a leader in high efficiency OLED devices, but also recognized as a special doping materials and organic transport materials suppliers. We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the development of P-OLED devices, but also can not wait to see the success of cooperation with CDT and Sumitomo chemical. Our strategy is to extend the doping material to all organic electronics, which is consistent with our strategy. "
About P-OLEDs and other display technology, P-OLED has several inherent advantages, such as: P-OLED is one of the OLED family, is a kind of lighting technology: P-OLED devices with their electric control and light. The P-OLED display includes polymeric material deposited on glass or plastic, without the need for other components such as backlighting or filters. P-OLED technology has excellent energy efficiency, but also contributed to the emergence of ultra-thin light emitting displays, such displays can operate at a lower voltage. As is brightness, higher resolution display, the viewing angle is close to 180 degrees; the structure is simple, the price is cheaper, more durable display module; also have fast response time, even at low temperature can also display the full color image.
About CDT
Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) is headquartered in British Cambridge (Cambourne), near Camborne for the polymerization of organic light emitting diodes in the development of the pioneer, the various kinds of electronic display products can be used for information management, communications and entertainment. P-OLED (polymeric organic light emitting diode) is one of the OLED family, is a kind of light electricity saving device, when the current flows will light. P-OLED, compared with other flat panel display technologies such as LCD, can provide enhanced visual experience and superior performance characteristics, and there is a key advantage, you can use the printing process in the solution. CDT was purchased by Sumitomo chemical in September 2007 and the two sides work together to study the luminescent polymer technology for display and light-emitting applications, and to promote the commercialization of the market.
About Sumitomo chemical (Sumitomo Chemical)
Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. is one of the most outstanding chemical manufacturers in Japan, as of March 31, 2008, total sales reached 1 trillion 897 billion yen. Whether it is in the fields of basic chemistry, petrochemical, precision chemistry, IT related chemistry, agricultural chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry and other fields, Sumitomo chemical products are all kinds of products. Sumitomo chemical will display material as its core business, while continuing to expand the cause of LCD materials, but also focus on the development of the next generation of display materials, the main focus on the P-OLED.
Sumitomo chemical began in 1989 to develop P-OLED, with the British Cambridge CDT Co., Ltd. signed a technical assistance agreement in 2001, including the licensing of light-emitting materials. May 2002, Sumitomo chemical equity investment in CDT, in order to establish a closer partnership, together with P-OLED to commercial use. Sumitomo chemical and CDT after the establishment of a joint funded enterprises Sumation, further develop their own P-OLED materials, P-OLED materials into commercial use.
