Overseas media reports said the Chilean Trusal salmon farming company tried to use the LED light to change the silver salmon photoperiod test was successful. The electric energy is saved by controlling the photoperiod, and the number of the silver fish which occurs early maturing is improved, and the productivity of the silver salmon is enhanced.

In the pilot project, the company chose each 1000 grams of silver salmon began to use LED light in the evening light, silver salmon all day in the state of light for 24 hours. After using the LED lamp, a farm in a breeding cycle can save only about $8000 (metal halide lamp power of 300 W, while the LED lamp is only about W). The test used LED lamp has only one color gamut (500 nm, green). These LED lamps consume less electricity, do not produce heat in the water or damage the eyes of the fish (such as cataract, etc.).

The company also found other benefits of using LED lights, including improvements in food intake, growth, and survival, with an average increase in salmon weight and a reduction in the number of precocious puberty. The salmon harvest was 1 months ahead of schedule, or even for a period of up to 2 months.
