DOE launches Oakland Demonstration report for LED street lights

DOD mentioned in the report, the third phase of the project to achieve the following three goals: than the second stage (LED light source power from 78W to 58W) save up to 25% of energy, an increase of less than the initial stage of 52% (from 121W to less). The cost of light source was decreased by 34% between Phase II ($610) and Phase III ($400, CSOTC), but the characteristics of the lighting remained. Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) and Energy Solutions of the company has been working for 12 months of the project presents a general view, the survey includes the comparative analysis of Phase II light efficiency, energy consumption, illumination and economy. In Phase III, four LED light sources on the Phase II Street are replaced by the next generation of LED light sources (58W), used in LED lights, LED chips and LED drives are derived from the same manufacturer.

Furthermore, DOE modified the energy star (Energy Star) standard for the SSL industry. In an email to the Energy Star Project Manager Richard H. Karney, the DOD standard for solid state lighting has been revised, and the revised version of Karney 1.1, which is listed in Version, will take effect in February. The message that the amendment did not change the performance requirements of the application of a Version 1, Version 1.1 only provide performance standards, the new application of several LED light source but these applications will be more because a notation was delayed for some time in force.
