DOE will invest $37 million 800 thousand in the 17 SSL program

The day before the U.S. Department of energy (DOE) announced that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, ARRA) to fund 17 solid-state lighting (SSL) plans to invest $37 million 800 thousand investment including LED lighting core technology, product development and manufacturing project.

Each selected project will focus on pre established research areas. For example, General ELectric (GE) will study the warm white LED light engine dedicated phosphor. Core technology related programs to obtain funds of $4 million, the winners were Cambrios, Rochester College and WiteOptics LLC.

In addition, the product research and development project funding of $10 million 300 thousand, the winners were CREE, GE, Lightscape Materials, OSRAM Sylvania, Philips Lumileds and PPG industries.

As for the LED lighting manufacturing project funding of $23 million 500 thousand, the winner was Applied Materials, GE Global Research, GE lumination, KLA-Tencor, Philips, Lumileds Ultratech, Universal Display and Veeco Instruments.
