Durable Blu ray emitters are expected to drive the OLED Market

Universal Display Corp. company said it developed blue phosphorescent OLED (blue phosphorescent) has exceeded 1000 hours. The company said that the new product life of up to 15000 hours. "Relates to many improvements to this breakthrough, including the blue phosphorescent OLED in the flow of understanding." Universal Display technology commercialization vice president Janice Mahon said. "For display applications, we will need a more saturated Blu ray OLED, which we call the 'sky blue' OLED, but this light blue can be used for lighting."

The device produces a peak wavelength of 474 nm light, the external quantum efficiency of 9.5%. Universal Display recently announced the development of a saturated blue phosphorescent OLED, but has not yet proved that it has a "sky blue OLED" as long life. Mahon said that the saturation of OLED to achieve that life, is currently the goal of R & D work.

OLED is becoming a small, low-power display for portable products such as mobile phones and electronic cameras. By adding phosphorus to OLED, the efficiency of the device can be improved. Mahon said that after the efficiency increase, the same brightness can be reduced to 1/4 of the original power consumption.
