Fairchild expands its intelligent power module product family

Anal Fairchild company announced the expansion of its intelligent power module (SPM) products series, launched three models using 29mm x 12mm (SMD) model for surface mounted Motion-SPM device package: FSB50325S (250V), FSB50250S (500V) and FSB50450S (500V). The SMD package using Motion-SPM allows designers to achieve the highest level of energy efficiency, compactness and low electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance, so as to meet the needs of small (50-125W) variable frequency motor drive applications such as pump, motor and fan motor for dishwasher. Because these modules are highly integrated features and advanced packaging, it can greatly simplify the design, shorten the time to market and reduce the overall cost of the system.

Taehoon, chief executive officer of Kim, said, "the design of dishwasher frequency conversion motors must meet stringent energy efficiency and limited board space requirements. Fairchild SMD package using the new Motion-SPM can provide 1 minutes of continuous 1500Vrms high rated insulation withstand voltage and excellent thermal resistance, which can improve system efficiency. In addition, the application of ultra small pin package is very suitable for these limited space, and because they are surface mounted devices, on the back of the PCB designers can therefore installation position with the module of the space, thus further reducing the space and reduce the complexity of design. In addition, the SMD package of Motion-SPM allows PCB manufacturers to use standard automatic assembly line to shorten the design cycle and reduce manufacturing costs."

Each Motion-SPM in the high efficiency package integrates a six MOSFET fast recovery (FRFET) and the three half bridge high voltage IC (HVIC). These integrated components using Fairchild's innovative technology to achieve low loss and low EMI characteristics, help to improve the efficiency and reliability of the application. Motion-SPM will MOSFET as the device's power switch, providing a better system durability and greater security work area (SOA) than IGBT power module or single chip solution. Compared with the discrete component scheme, these highly integrated modules can not only save space effectively, but also eliminate the time-consuming process of testing and recognition of multiple discrete components.

These SMD package Motion-SPM enrich the existing Motion-SPM product line of fairchild. Now designers can choose the most suitable package, that is, SMD or micro DIP (dual in line package).
