Fairchild portable design for compact LED backlight solution

Fairchild Semiconductor (Fairchild) in April 1st launched a compact, flexible backlight solution FAN5341, to meet the needs of today's battery powered portable electronic products for customers to save energy and achieve more functionality. FAN5341 is an efficient LED driver solution that is able to enhance the brightness and resolution of the portable design, while providing 32 dimming function, and can drive up to 5 series of white LED. The device is driven by serial LED, to ensure that all the LED for mobile phones, digital cameras, GPS devices, MP3 players and other devices using a small LED display with equal brightness.

This boost LED driver operates at a switching frequency of 1.2MHz and incorporates a Schottky diode that minimizes the volume of external passive components and the overall circuit board space. The use of FAN5341 simple single line interface, the designer can transfer the digital pulse from the microcontroller to the FAN5341, which easily control the brightness level of LED. In addition, since this lighting solution drives three to five serial LED, so each LED through the current are the same, to ensure the same brightness. In addition, the device provides up to 83% efficiency, is able to minimize power consumption, to meet the needs of portable design space and power consumption. FAN5341 features a compact thin 2mm x 2mm UMLP package.
