Recently, there has been a lot of confusion in the market due to the lack of solid state lighting (SSL) standards. The different test methods and terminology between different manufacturers make it difficult to compare the traditional LED products with traditional lighting products, LED products can not be compared. The U.S. Department of energy has been working closely with relevant standards development organizations to accelerate the development and implementation of the necessary SSL standards. The U.S. Department of energy to speed up the process of providing support for the development of standards, including the convening of ongoing seminars to encourage cooperation and coordination. These seminars by the participation of the following standards group representatives and members of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), the American National Standards Institute of Technology (NIST), American security detection (UL), Lab Corp (CIE), the International Commission on illumination CSAInternational, and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
A new standard for solid state lighting in 2008 released 4 new standards for LED products.
1.IESLM-79-2008 is an accredited test method for the electronic and photometric properties of solid state lighting systems. Can calculate the efficiency of LED lamps (calculated by the light output of light divided by the output power of the lumen per watt). Luminaire efficiency is the most reliable way to measure the performance of LED products. By measuring the performance of the lamp to replace the traditional means to rely on the difference between the level of lamps and lanterns. LM-79 provides the basis for the establishment of accurate comparison of the performance of lamps, not only solid state lighting products but also for a variety of light sources.
2.IESLM-80-2008, is a LED light source lumen attenuation approved measurement method. Based on the definition of lumen attenuation, the LED life expectancy is evaluated. The light source is not the same as that of the filament (the light of the filament will fail completely), while the light emitting diode is usually not the case, and the light of the LED will gradually weaken over time. LM-80 developed a set of criteria for lumen attenuation testing.
3.ANSIC78.377-2008, is a solid state lighting product color tolerances. For all kinds of color temperature of white LED gives the recommended color area. Color and color temperature indicators are vital to the lighting designer.
4.IESRP-16 Appendix A is a lighting term and definition. Standard Terminology Relating to the definition of solid-state lighting industry.
These standards are part of or reference to the U.S. Department of energy's Energy Star - solid state lighting standards. All of the products labeled with the Energy Star label must pass these tests, but also need to meet the U.S. Department of energy CALiPER test requirements and Gateway demonstration of product evaluation requirements.
Two, the future of solid state lighting standards
The introduction of LM-79.LM-80, C78.377-2008 and RP-16 (a) standards is the first effort to accelerate and assist in the development of standards. In addition, there have been significant advances in the development of other standards:
1.ANSIC82-SSLl, "drive performance standards" for solid-state lighting products, power supply and drive characteristics of the detailed provisions.
2.UL8750, "LED security" for solid state lighting components (including LEDs and LED arrays, power supply and control circuits) to make a detailed minimum safety requirements.
3.TM-21, LED life estimation method will provide a way to predict the life of LED products by using LM-80 test data.
Over time, these standards and other standards will eliminate the performance comparison between products. These are the best products for the convenience of lighting manufacturers, designers, and regulators in product applications. Industry experts are to continue work in the formulation of standards on the extremely hard and bitter, they are helping to build a more rich information platform, which will contribute to the development of solid-state lighting, and will promote the application and growth of the market.
