Fujitsu: 200GB notebook hard disk shipped in the third quarter of this year

On March 28th, Fujitsu said on Monday it would produce 200GB hard drives for laptops from the third quarter of this year.

According to PCWorld website reported that, according to this timetable, end users will be able to buy this year to configure such a hard disk notebook. This time is expected to be ahead of Fujitsu's last year, when Fujitsu said the hard drive to wait until 2007 is likely to be listed.

Fujitsu currently offers 2.5 inch hard disk maximum capacity of 160GB, so the new capacity will be increased by 25%. Like 160GB hard disk, the new product will also use the Serial ATA interface, and will aim at the need for large capacity hard disk entertainment and multimedia notebook market.

The 2.5 inch large capacity hard disk is mainly used in notebooks and other consumer electronics products, while Fujitsu has been an active player in the market. According to the company's data, its share in the market has made 14 consecutive quarters of growth, thanks in part to its $2.5 Serial ATA product.

Fujitsu had expected in January this year, the notebook computer and non IT products -- such as music players and digital video recorders will remain strong growth in the next few years, the development direction of Fujitsu's hard drive business will focus on these products.

According to Fujitsu is expected to apply to the 2.5 inch hard disk notebook market in 2005 for the 81 million, is expected in 2008 will be more than 150 million, in 2010 will reach more than 210 million. Meanwhile, the desktop PC hard disk market is expected to shrink from 240 million in 2005 to 190 million in 2010. Desktop PC hard disk is still the mainstay of Fujitsu's hard drive business.
