German instrument 0.65 inch DLP chip to improve the projector contrast of 20%

TI (TI), published a 0.65 inch DLP chip "65WXGA DarkChip3". The product for DLP projectors, support the contrast than the original product to improve more than 20% WXGA. Is currently in mass production, will soon begin to supply. DarkChip3 through the DLP chip on the outside of the lens to suppress the effect of diffuse light, using a contrast enhancement technology. Prior to the DLP chip DarkChip3 minimum picture size of 0.8 inches, and this will increase the size of the screen reduced to 0.65 inches of products. The price of the chip is not announced.

According to the introduction, the reason is: the stray light generated through each pixel adjacent lens gap light, met DLP at the bottom of the lens surface after the formation of diffusion. For this problem, TI has taken two countermeasures. One is to reduce the distance between the adjacent pixels. This reduces the light passing through the lens gap. The aperture ratio of the DLP chip (the ratio of the area of the lens to the chip area) reached more than 90%. Two is to improve the lens at the bottom of the DLP chip surface coating, so that light is not easy to diffuse. As a result of these two measures to reduce the occurrence of diffuse light, and because of the increase in black performance, the contrast is also increased.
