ISuppli:2011 OLED TV accounted for only 0.5% of the market

According to market research firm iSuppli, although SONY and Toshiba Co to promote the organic light emitting diode display technology (OLED) the excellent quality, but in the next few years, because of the high price and production barriers, the expected impact on the global TV market can only produce smaller.

ISuppli predicts, to the organic light emitting diode (OLED-TV) of the 2012 global TV shipments will rise from this year's 8000 units to 1 million 200 thousand units, while sales revenue from less than 1 million U.S. dollars now increased to $691 million. But it also accounts for only a small share of the entire TV market, less than 242 million 700 thousand of global TV sales in 2011 is expected to be 0.5%.

Organic light emitting diode display screen, which is mainly used in mobile phones today, has brighter images, higher contrast and better color than LCD and plasma displays. This is because the technology can light itself, rather than relying on the background light.

To enter the mainstream TV market, organic light-emitting diode screen to reach more than 20 inches. And manufacturers need time to develop the necessary process of mass production and the construction of the scale of the necessary equipment.

In the light emitting diode TV unit cost reduction, it is expected that its retail price is more than 1 times higher than mature products, such as LCD tv. Therefore, it is expected that the majority of consumers will choose adequate supply of mature products.

Today's TV market is full of options, including CRT TV, LCD TV, plasma tv. There are also potential new technologies, such as surface conduction electron emission display (SED) and carbon nanotube field emission display (FED). Because there are many options, organic light-emitting diode TV manufacturers will be able to attract the ultimate OEM manufacturers and channel distributors.
