Japan's three largest semiconductor manufacturers research joint chip factory

Hitachi, Toshiba and Renesas Technology (Renesas Technology) recently confirmed, is studying the feasibility of the establishment of a joint foundry, every company can bring some manufacturing outsourcing to the United foundries.

Previously, there have been reports that Hitachi, Matsushita Electric, NEC electronics and Renesas technology and Toshiba these five Japanese semiconductor manufacturers will build a joint factory. In November, the Japanese newspaper "Yomiuri Shimbun" (Yomiuri) reported that Japan's five largest semiconductor manufacturers have reached a basic agreement, plans to cost about 200 billion yen to establish a joint factory. The companies have denied that they have reached an agreement.

It is still not clear Matsushita Electric and NEC electronic will join the United Factory project. In November, NEC electronics and Toshiba announced that they will work together to develop 45 nm CMOS logic manufacturing process. In addition, the two companies began to discuss the possibility of a comprehensive alliance to expand the scope of cooperation from design and product development to product manufacturing.
