Japan: use LED street lights to achieve communication speed of 100 megabits per second?!

Visible light communication is a new communication technology using LED, and it is about to enter the practical stage.

LAMPSERVE the risk of corporate Japan in Okinawa County of Naha city will begin in September, was the world's first outdoor demonstration experiment, to establish high-speed communication technology. If the development is successful, it is expected that the lack of communication infrastructure in Africa and emerging markets in asia.

It is reported that LAMPSERVE found cooperation in local enterprises, from Japan to provide basic technical hardware and software development for Estonia, the final in Estonia successfully developed for sending and receiving device for visible light communication.

LAMPSERVE cooperatives Changfeng Yao said that at present a street lamp costs about 100 thousand yen, you can lay the communications transceiver. It is said that the communication speed can be guaranteed at least 100 megabits per second.

LAMPSERVE in May this year, the technology can be obtained in the outdoor visible light communications patents. It is scheduled to be first tested in Estonia in September, followed by an empirical study in Okinawa county.

LAMPSERVE envisions using street lights as a tool for visible light communication. That is, to install LED on the street lamp, so that it has the same communication function. Existing data confirmed that the current can be about 200 meters for the unit of visible light communication, LAMPSERVE's idea is to use street lights as the infrastructure to achieve high-speed communications.

LAMPSERVE cooperatives Changfeng Yao about 5 years ago began to focus on the use of LED communications technology, in March 2011 set up LAMPSERVE.
