Many flat-panel TV manufacturers began ambitious plans to launch LED LCD tv. Not long ago, Samsung took the lead in the release of the country's largest 70 inch LED LCD TV, and earlier, SONY, PHILPS has announced the launch of the use of LED Technology TV products. The key difference between LED and traditional LCD: backlight

The traditional liquid crystal display usually uses CCFL backlight, that is, cold cathode fluorescent lamp. It has been widely used in notebook computers, desktop computers and TV sets. But CCFL is not considered environmentally friendly, mercury; color performance is not enough, can only reach NTSC of 70%~80%; for large size TV screen, CCFL voltage rise and long pipe processing is also difficult.

In contrast, LED uses a light-emitting diode as a backlight source, can provide red, green and blue, green, orange, amber, white and other colors, color gamut wider color gamut can reach 105% NTSC, which provides a guarantee for the promotion of color LCD tv.

In addition, the LED life is very long, the service life of up to 100 thousand hours, if you press a day to start the calculation of 5 hours, a LED backlight LCD TV can be used for nearly 55 years. In addition, it does not contain mercury, better environmental performance.

LED urgent need to face the problem: cost, technology, light transmission efficiency

Although LED has obvious advantages, but really can replace or replace the traditional part of the liquid crystal CCFL luminescence is not an easy thing. There are three main reasons, such as cost, technology maturity and transparency.

From the cost point of view, the current LED and CCFL backlight module there is still a big spread. The second half of 2006, 40 inch LED backlight module price of about $610, CCFL is $210, the gap between the two is about 3 times.

TV competition next battle: LED
