LED lamps specification will come into force

In recent years, the rise of green awareness, with energy-saving LED light source has gradually become the mainstream of the development of the lighting industry. On the long-term development of the LED industry, in addition to the pursuit of efficiency, LED products into new security thinking is the key.

To protect the safety of consumers UL (UnderwritersLaboratories) in 2005, drafted a draft ULSubject8750 standard for LED security module and lighting, in order to standardize LED as light source products, to provide a reliable lamp with verification specification guidelines for LED lamps production research and development. Currently, UL is working with ITRI closely, AC LED for design prototype ITRI's assessment of safety verification to the ULSubject8750 protocol, and a personal safety for heat dissipation and brightness for giving advice to assist the Institute, a prototype design standard as soon as possible.

The ULSubject8750 draft is expected to be released in early 2009 as a formal standard, expected future LED products will become standardized. At the same time the industry safety certification standard required the sale of LED products to North America; all kinds of products of the LED security authentication service UL for LED main light source, including lamps, bulbs, drive, future LED light source in addition to the lighting products through existing safety norms, should be more special attributes for LED light source or module verification.
