Large size LED backlight into the mainstream to improve luminous efficiency is the key

At present, the development of the major TV manufacturers to develop LED backlight TV is accelerating, LED backlight TV share will accelerate than expected.

LED as a backlight has great advantages

LED as backlight source has the following advantages:

From the perspective of mechanical properties, because it is a solid light source, good shock resistance, no glass products are not easy to damage; because the LED is relatively small compared to other light source, light weight, so that the display and television to achieve ultra-thin, ultra light. As our company this year launched LED backlight 19 inch display can be 12.8mm thick, weight from 4.5 kg to 2.5 kg, power consumption is reduced from 35W to 20W, and can display the thickness of large-size TV to do about 10mm, the "hanging TV" worthy of the name.

From the perspective of optical properties, the color gamut is wide (90% ~ 105%), the light efficiency is higher (at the present stage, the commodity level is about 100lm/w), the brightness and chroma can be controlled and adjusted, and the dynamic contrast is greatly improved.

From the aspect of electrical performance, the use of low-voltage DC drive, safe and fast response.

From the aspect of energy saving, the luminous efficiency of white LED in almost every year from 10% to 15% of the speed increase, now the level of commercialization has reached more than 100lm/w, the luminous efficiency of the fluorescent tube series, the average energy saving of up to 30% ~ 50%, and LED for DC low voltage power supply, so there is no high voltage high frequency conversion loss.

From the perspective of health and environmental protection, which do not contain mercury and other harmful gases; as driven by the low voltage DC high voltage, so there is no radiation, no ultraviolet and infrared radiation, no stroboscopic; when the failure of electronic waste, and easy handling.

In addition, the use of LED backlight technology is becoming mature, since 2004 has been rapid development, the market occupied ratio gradually increased: since 2008, 26 inches below the backlight for almost all LED, 32 inches, 42 inches is also gradually increase the delivery rate. In the current backlight products, especially in portable display devices and computer monitors, LED backlight has occupied the mainstream, large-size LED backlight TV market.

LED backlight also has its shortcomings, mainly reflected in the following aspects:

First of all, LED manufacturing and packaging technology, especially large size backlight CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) is not mature enough. The performance of LED manufacturers in the backlight for the technical requirements of LED is not very clear, especially domestic manufacturers. From the perspective of LED packaging, LED packaging is more suitable for lighting, but not to adapt to the requirements of the backlight mixing distance.

Secondly, the commercialization of LED is still a luminous efficiency is not high, white LED (induced by blue chip and yellow phosphor) light is about 100lm/w, but the color gamut of CCFL compared with what no advantage; and blue chips with red and Green Phosphors by white LED color gamut is better, but the light effect is only about 60lm/w; if the use of red, green and blue chip synthesis of white light color gamut is better, but the efficiency is lower, only about 40lm/w, the contradiction between color gamut and light effect, must be a breakthrough.

Again, because of the large size of the backlight is strict to a TV set on the LED brightness, color temperature, wavelength consistency requirements, but now parameters LED to supply the difference and discreteness of inconsistency, the use of a period of time after attenuation is more obvious.

Finally, the price of LED is higher.

LED backlight gradually replace CCFL

CCFL, FFL (flat fluorescent lamp), EEFL (external electrode fluorescent lamp (HCFL), hot cathode fluorescent tube) for fluorescent lamp light source, there are fragile, mercury and other harmful gases, emission spectrum with ultraviolet and infrared radiation, electromagnetic radiation of high voltage driving are required, congenital defects of scrap electronic waste refractory to human health and environmental protection.
