Lighting industry pioneer General Electric (GE) consider the sale of consumer lighting business

San San - April 6th news, as a pioneer in the global lighting industry, General Electric (GE) may withdraw from the market.

The company, which was founded by Edison 125 years ago, is considering selling its consumer lighting business. Edison is the world's first practical application in the business of incandescent lamp inventor, in 1892, Edison Electric Light Company and the Thomsen - Electric Company merged to set up Ge Corp.

The company has hired investment banks to help them assess the possibility of selling consumer lighting, which could give it $500 million, but it is not yet possible to secure a deal, according to people familiar with the matter.

Ge is considering the sale of this business includes North American residential LED lighting and home networking technology. The company plans to retain a commercial LED lighting business called Current.

Last year, Ge sold the home appliance business for $5 billion 400 million to Haier group. The company is currently focused on power turbines, aircraft engines, medical equipment and locomotive operations, as well as lucrative contracts to provide services to these machines.
