Maxim high power HB LED driver can drive common anode LED

Maxim Integrated Products (letter) launched MAX16821 high-power, synchronous high brightness LED (HB LED) driver, can quickly respond to current pulses, is the first to drive a common anode LED driver. The MAX16821 features a unique pin configuration capability that allows the device to be configured as a synchronous buck or a synchronous boost mode. Synchronous buck and Synchronous Boost mode can make the LED driver work at a very high efficiency, such as automotive exterior lighting and emergency lighting systems, such as the power consumption of high power applications.

Wide switching frequencies (125kH to 1.5MHz) allow small size inductors and filter capacitors to be used in space tight devices such as pocket projectors. For systems that require multiple drives, the MAX16821 also has a clock output of 180 DEG phase delay, which can control the LED driver for another phase error operation. This scheme reduces the LED current ripple, thereby reducing the size and cost of the input and output filter capacitors.

The MAX16821 operates at 5.4V to 28V operating voltage, and the built-in 0.03V LED current sense voltage can be achieved with minimum power consumption (also available for other current detection voltage versions). Other features include programmable hiccup mode, over voltage protection, reverse current limiting, and output enable. MAX16821 operating in the -40 to +125 DEG C temperature range of automotive grade, with a bare pad micro, lead-free, 5mm * 5mm * 0.8mm, 28 pin TQFN package.
