NEC will be seeking strategic partners mobile phone business to reverse the disadvantage

For NEC, the long-term loss of mobile phones and semiconductor business turnaround is the most urgent task. Until September 30th the first half of the fiscal year, operating profit of NEC has declined by 78%.

For mobile phone business, NEC is considering the choice of cooperation with other mobile phone manufacturers to develop and marketing aspects of cooperation with other mobile phone manufacturers.

A spokesman for NEC said: "we will be in 6 months time to develop specific directions."

NEC mobile phone business in Japan and overseas market demand and weak negative impact of fierce market competition, NEC is expected by March next year, the year of the mobile phone business operating loss will amount to more than 30 billion yen ($257 million 700 thousand).

The spokesman said that in view of the semiconductor business, NEC intends to reach a joint production of advanced chips in the next year and a half with partners. NEC electronics is the world's eighth largest chip manufacturer, while NEC has a 70% stake in NEC electronics. In November this year, NEC electronics has said that in order to reduce the high cost of development, shorten the time to launch the product, it will work with Toshiba Co to develop advanced system chips.

NEC electronics also said it was working with Toshiba Co on the joint production of chips to negotiate matters, but did not disclose the specific time.
