New additives make perovskite LED more stable and efficient

Washington on 16 January, in the 16 published "nature photonics magazine", Princeton University researchers published a paper, they developed a new technology, by adding organic ammonium halide, producing perovskite lower cost and higher efficiency and more stable performance of the light emitting diode (LED).

Over the past 10 years, the application of LED is more and more widely, its energy saving, environmental protection, long life, small size, but the manufacturing costs are relatively high, reducing the cost of manufacturing LED is an important goal of the relevant industry. Perovskite is an ancient material, first discovered in 1839 in the mountains of Ural, Russia, named after the Russian geologists Lev Polovskiy (perovskite English name is Perovskite). This material is mostly cubic or eight sides, with strange properties. It can be either a semiconductor or a superconductor, depending on its structure. As a new type of functional materials, perovskite has great potential in the field of environmental protection and industrial catalysis. In recent years, due to its application in the field of solar cells and sustained attention.

Organic inorganic hybrid perovskite materials have also been considered as a substitute for LED materials such as gallium nitride by many scientists. However, the disadvantages of low efficiency and low stability of the two kinds of materials restrict their application in the field of LED. This time, Princeton University researchers developed a new technology to solve this problem. They said in the paper, in the manufacture of Perovskite Thin Films, the addition of organic ammonium halide perovskite in solution, especially long chain organic ammonium halide, the perovskite crystal particles smaller, perovskite thin films made of thin and smooth. And this perovskite film means better external quantum efficiency, led to higher efficiency, better stability.

Compared with silicon and other LED materials, perovskite is cheaper and the preparation process is simpler. The new technology will accelerate the commercial application of perovskite in lighting, display, and laser fields, making future LED products more efficient and inexpensive, the researchers said.
