Nikon will stop production in digital film cameras professional camera retention

According to foreign reports, the world's second largest digital SLR camera manufacturers in Japan Nikon company said in a statement Thursday, the company will stop most of the traditional film camera production, and focused on digital camera business, but some professional film camera product line will be retained.

Nikon said in a statement posted on its website, "Nikon will stop producing all the lenses and zoom lenses for a large camera. Nikon will also stop production of most of the film camera body, manual focus lens and related accessories." Nikon said the existing inventory will be sold this summer.

Nikon is one of the world's two largest professional camera brand, the company also said on Thursday that it will continue to produce and sell flagship professional camera F6, as well as some related lens. In addition, the manual focus of FM10 sales in Europe and beyond.

It is reported that about 95% of Nikon's UK sales revenue comes from digital camera products. Currently, Nikon has decided to focus resources, to fight the increasingly fierce competition in the digital camera market. Nikon said in a statement: "the market for the provision of advanced features and high value-added digital cameras are still growing demand."

With OLYMPUS, Fuji and other companies continue to lose money, Nikon has become one of the few manufacturers of Japanese camera makers in the digital era. Nikon is expected this fiscal year (ending March), sales revenue will reach 700 billion yen (about $6 billion), operating profit of 45 billion yen, earnings will reach 15 billion yen ($130 million).

Late last year, Nikon said its average sales price of digital cameras fell 8%. By contrast, the average selling price of the whole industry fell by 10%. (end)
