OSRAM's new LED prototype for headlight LED lighting add vitality

In September 2011 26 to 28, Darmstadt in Germany (Darmstadt) international automotive lighting seminar held (ISAL), OSRAM Opto Semiconductors will feature two new LED headlights: OSLON Flat and OSRAM Black prototype OSTAR Headlamp Pro. These two prototypes are using a new chip and packaging technology, and are equipped with ceramic converter. At the same time, they also have many advantages, including even under high current can also achieve high light output, uniform light, thermal stability and very good contrast.

As the car's eyes, headlights need to adopt a more flexible light source. These light sources are not only reliable, can provide the appropriate amount of light in all visual and driving conditions, but also the need to perform a variety of functions to respond to changing environmental conditions, including the high temperature of the headlights. In order to meet these requirements, OSRAM has developed two new LED prototype: OSLON Black Flat and OSRAM OSTAR Headlamp Pro.

OSLON Black Flat is the latest member of the OSLON black series, equipped with a ceramic converter and QFN (Quad Flat No Leads, square flat, non pin) package. The typical thermal resistance of the product is 5 K/W, which is less than the thermal resistance of the other members of the black series. Because of the thermal expansion coefficient of the special material and the expansion coefficient of the metal core plate, the black packaging means high stability. The new LED does not need to be equipped with a lens, so it can be very close to the light into the light guide plate, etc.. In addition, the pads are the same as those used in the entire product line, so that even if the circuit board design is roughly the same, the light output can be greatly increased. The traction power of this new product is 2.3 W, the operating current is 700 mA, can achieve a typical luminous flux of 190 lm.

OSRAM OSTAR Pro can meet the requirements of the output and the environmental conditions of the many requirements, compared with the previous version, can provide a more uniform type of light, better thermal stability and higher brightness Headlamp. The 20 x 20 mm high throughput LED provides multiple versions with 2 to 5 chips.

If the new OSTAR solution, headlights manufacturers are expected to significantly reduce costs, that is, less investment, but can achieve higher output. As long as can be equipped with individually or through serial mode control chip, can achieve AFS (Adaptive Frontlighting System, adaptive front lighting system) function, thus introducing matrix allowed the use of chip solution configuration. The typical luminous flux of single chip is about 250 LM (working current is 1 A), and obtain the corresponding flux 5 chip version is about 1250 LM; the 5 version of the chip thermal resistance is 2.1 K, the same resistance than earlier models of low 0.5 K.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Germany headquarters automotive LED director Peter Knittl is confident: "the two prototype of new technology and new functions in a body, fully meet all requirements of the vehicle headlight system, and so on all the models are attractive, easy to use. "All prototypes are based on UX:3 chip technology to achieve high light output at high current. They are equipped with ceramic converters to ensure uniformity of the light type. With the advanced packaging technology, the chip is directly packaged in the reflector, so that the bright and dark boundary can be generated in the optical mode, so as to achieve very good contrast ratio. All of these properties have proved that the two LED is the ideal light source for high efficiency headlights. Two prototypes are now available in the first batch of samples, plans to launch the market in the third quarter of 2012.
