OSRAM Opto Semiconductors in Malaysia to build one of the world's most advanced LED chip factory

In order to meet the global demand for the LED market, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, taking a leading LED technology, announced the construction of a world's most advanced LED chip plant in Malaysia penang. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors company CEO Rudiger Muller and Malaysia Penang State Minister Koh Tsu Koon held the groundbreaking ceremony, marking the 30 thousand square meters of factory started construction. Is expected to open in the spring of 2009.

The new plant in Malaysia will use advanced nitride technology to produce LED chips. In addition, the existing LED assembly line in Penang, the production capacity will be increased by more than 50%. In the long run this expansion will add more than 800 new jobs, with a total number of more than 3000 people, making OSRAM one of the largest employees in the Southern District of Malaysia.

The productivity improvement of the new plant, with the LED chip factory in Regensburg, Germany, will strengthen the status of OSRAM semiconductor as the world's second largest LED producer, to meet the future demand for LED.

OSRAM employs about 40000 people worldwide, offering products to customers in 150 countries and has a total of 49 production lines in 18 countries.
