OSRAM Opto Semiconductors company recently announced the launch of its latest LEDMicroSidELed3806 series side light, which is designed for backlit display intelligent mobile phone, tablet computer and other mobile devices and design. The product family includes a phosphorescent white LED that generates a 2700K-10000K white image, and a blue emitter for quantum dot applications.
These LED size 3.8 x 1 x 0.6mm, design for optics, edge emitting directly coupled to the light guide, and the plane light pipe is mounted on the side of LCD to generate the backlight. The nominal life of this product is 15000 hours to L70 (or its initial lumen output of 70%).
White LED light emitting in the range of 8000KCCT, can achieve 150lm/W efficiency and excellent color and brightness consistency; according to OSRAM, the white point and commonly used LCD filter, is good, which can provide the best brightness and color gamut.
Blue LED and quantum dots
Blue LED design of quantum dots for emerging technology; quantum dot light quantum excitation phosphor, similar to the traditional, but these points have much narrower emission spectra.
In display applications, manufacturers often the red green blue (RGB) material layer between quantum dots embedded into the light pipe and LCD; quantum dots to precisely match the LCDRGB filter are arranged. Therefore, only red light can pass through the red filter, green and blue filters. Using this technology, the display can achieve a more saturated color than the white backlight LCD and enhanced color gamut.
From OSRAM blue LED can be used for quantum dot display in the application of incentive, choose blue because LED manufacturers can provide the best quantum efficiency in the color. According to reports, OSRAM's blue MicroSideled3806 can achieve 55% external quantum efficiency.
OSRAM, blue LED and quantum dot technology can make higher efficiency with the display system level power consumption; quantum dots can be more fully by transmitting, because if the use of white light, when the light passes through the filter when there will be a large part of the energy spectrum of the backlight is wasted. OSRAM says its product has the advantage of reducing the power consumption of 10-15% and increasing the coverage area of 33% color space.
