OSRAM to introduce Infineon for Sri Lanka 100 fishermen lamp LED energy-saving lamp

July 2, 2010 - China News - OSRAM Opto Semiconductors and Infineon Technologies to promote sustainable development and environmental protection work together. The German company Diana Electronic Systems and OSRAM LED Light for you partner network for cooperation, global nature fund (Global Nature Fund) developed a use of energy-saving LED lamp in Sri Lanka, local fishermen fishing at night will use these LED lamps to replace the kerosene lamp is harmful to the environment. In Sri Lanka, there are a total of 85000 canoes fishermen, most of the night in the mangrove swamp shrimp. Fishermen first lit the kerosene lamp will then lead over the prawns, shrimp special Lou capture. Although this approach is consistent with the principles of sustainable development of shrimp, but the use of kerosene kerosene lamp is a serious threat to the surrounding environment. The leaking kerosene can pollute the water and the spawning grounds, and the carbon dioxide emissions from kerosene lamps are even more alarming. The 85000 fishermen in Sri Lanka burn up to 100 thousand liters of kerosene a night, up to about $30 million a year, equivalent to about 75000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. Designed for LED lamps in Sri Lanka developed in order to solve this problem, the global nature fund launched a theme for the introduction of "night fishing compact energy-saving fluorescent lamp with LED and improve the Sri Lankan fishermen life plan. The global fund is an international environmental protection and natural foundation, the study by the Wuppertal Institute (Wuppertal-Institut), (Dicota) and Deyi of Sika group (Sika AG) jointly launched with the purpose of promoting the application of environment-friendly LED lights in the night fishing and other forms of energy saving lighting device in the family and the public in the building. In the LED Light for you (LLFY) support partner of OSRAM and Infineon, Diana Electronic company successfully developed LED lamp is durable, waterproof and low cost, instead of fishermen currently used kerosene lamps. As the first phase of the program, the global nature fund is currently working for the distribution of 100 such LED lamps for fishermen. The long-term goal of this project is to eventually replace all kerosene lamps. LLFY network provides guidance for highly fragmented LED market, provides support for potential users of LED technology, and helps them find suitable partners to develop LED lighting projects. All partners are certified according to strict quality standards. Manufactured by Diana Electronic company, this is a standard LED drive developed by Infineon and OSRAM's Amber Golden Dragon LED. In this regard, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Germany headquarters of the European Sales Manager Michael Wohs said, "on the one hand, sensitive ecosystems in this plan will help to protect the mangrove wetland, avoid the leakage caused by kerosene damage, and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions; on the other hand, also provides the ability to continue the innovative technology for night fishing fishermen. In order to ensure their main source of income." OSRAM's Amber Golden Dragon LED light is very similar to kerosene lamps, so it will not affect the capture of fishermen. The plan marks a major step forward in Sri Lanka's introduction of energy-efficient lighting, and will make a significant contribution to the protection of the local environment. As early as 2008, OSRAM and the Global Fund for nature has been for the Vitoria Lake in East Africa fishermen to provide energy-saving products. OSRAM to provide long-term support for less developed countries and regions, to help them make better use of energy-efficient lighting technology.
