PHILPS: 2015 LED market size beyond the traditional light source

According to Reuters (Reuters) reported that in 2015, PHILPS (Philips) believes that the global lighting market will exceed 80 billion euros ($109 billion 400 million), and LED market size will be greater than the traditional light source. PHILPS estimates in 2009 the global lighting market size of about 45 billion ~500 billion euros, the proportion of LED accounted for only about 6~8%, down LED market size of about ~40.

Compared to the performance of PHILPS itself, in the fourth quarter of 2009, its lighting business revenue has more than 10% from LED. PHILPS's LED revenue accounted for the proportion of all light sources higher than the global average.

Of the 4 bulbs in the world, about 1 are made by PHILPS. The company has relied on semiconductor sales, but lost its Asian rivals in 2006 to sell the semiconductor business. PHILPS invested more than 4 billion euros in clean technology, LED is one of the key investment projects. Because LED is made of diodes or chips, PHILPS once again rely heavily on semiconductors, in an attempt to redefine the world's leading position.

In order to let PHILPS in the LED on the achievement of the better known LED lamp PHILPS appeared in the global large-scale activities, including the New York Times Square New Year Countdown lights, Kinderdijik meeting in Holland and the Copenhagen climate region of the windmill LED street lights.

Government regulations will be to promote the further popularization of LED, a very important part. Although the European Union (EU) has decided in 2012 to fully disable incandescent bulbs, but in other parts of the world, still need the government to do its best to promote LED.
