PIDA: LED components or Steering Vehicles in Taiwan, Mini LED and other niche products

The optoelectronic Association (PIDA) pointed out that the LED component industry in Taiwan is facing adjustment, which will reduce or withdraw from the backlight and general lighting applications of the large blue light LED, to four yuan, vehicle, invisible light, Mini LED and other niche products, or VCSEL, GaN HEMT and other optoelectronic products.

According to PIDA, according to the statistics in 2017, the output value of the LED component industry in various regions of the world reached 18 billion 500 million US dollars, and the growth rate of 8% of the output value was free from the decline of the previous two years. In the mainland, the output value of LED components in the mainland reaches 28% in the global market and 25% in the annual growth rate, which is overbearing all regions of the world; the growth of Europe is 14%, and the other regions are roughly flat.

In Taiwan, the output value of LED components was about $3 billion 700 million in 2017. However, the major factories have adjusted their portfolio to reduce or even withdraw from the bulk of the blue light LED products with low Maori backlighting and lighting applications, adding four yuan, vehicle, invisible light, and Mini LED.

Several other big factories extend MOCVD epitaxy technology to VCSEL and GaN HEMT components, and expand from professional LED to optoelectronic semiconductor manufacturing.

PIDA further points out that the LED industry in the mainland has achieved advantages in the LED terminal applications such as lighting and panel backlighting, and with the fermentation of the localization effect of the components, the LED elements in the mainland have been able to dominate the world.

In contrast, the blue light LED components needed for large applications in Taiwan have no longer invested in the resources, but are turning to four yuan, vehicle, invisible light, Mini LED, medical treatment and other niche products, and will become the future development focus of the LED industry in the Taiwan region.

PIDA emphasizes that these niche applications are widely used, and many need to be integrated across fields and different industries. Therefore, the establishment of a cooperative platform to improve the efficiency of product development and speed up the opening of the upper and lower reaches of the upper and lower reaches will be the key to development.
