Preparing for 2020 Olympic Games, Tokyo upgraded night scene lighting in an all-round way

In order to meet the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games, Japan is fully launching the "night light Tokyo" project.

The move is to promote the night travel of foreign tourists. The Tokyo municipal government, in collaboration with the central government and other units, plans to illuminate about 30 public facilities, and plans to standardize lighting and take measures to reduce "light pollution".

Add more lighting points

According to a survey by the Japanese Development Bank and other units, many visiting foreign tourists have a high evaluation of Japanese traditional culture, popular culture and food, but low on Japanese night life.

In order to improve the attraction of "Tokyo night", in March, the Tokyo government chose three tourist attractions and site areas in the Tokyo region as the main lighting area. The three areas are the Tokyo station and the Huangju neighborhood; the Kashi River and the coastal area; and Chek Kan and Kun.

There are 28 major lighting places in the three regions, and it is expected that the number will double by fiscal year 2020.

In the landscape planning to be revised this summer, the Tokyo municipal government plans to include the night landscape for the first time and promote lighting in residential and tourist attractions according to the location.

Color brightness will be coordinated

Tokyo municipal government intends to take the project within the central Tokyo area as a reference, considering the harmony with the landscape of the whole city to illuminate the building.

In 2009, the Tokyo regional development and Management Committee drafted a guide on lighting, which set a standard for color and brightness, and requested that the upper part of buildings in the area of the Tokyo station should be illuminated by warm colors before and in coordination with the lighting of the station building.

When a new building is overly illuminated, the committee will ask the operators of the building to cooperate and solve it.

Atsuhiko Kinjo, 56, proudly said, "we often hear that the atmosphere in the whole town has been improved by moderate lighting."

Seek appropriate brightness

Excessive lighting may have a negative impact on plants and animals, such as hindering the growth of rice plants and causing "light pollution".

In view of this, the Tokyo municipal government plans to include a requirement in its landscape plan that companies that are conducting lighting projects have to use appropriate brightness to prevent light pollution.

In addition to lighting facilities, it is also planned to specify minimum lighting requirements in natural rich places so that people can see the stars.

"I hope to take more measures to make people aware that lighting may cause harm," said Nobuaki Ochi, an associate professor at Dongyang University.
