PIDA: Taiwan LED element or steering vehicle, Mini LED and other niche products

Photoelectric Association (PIDA) pointed out that the LED component industry in Taiwan is facing the adjustment, will reduce or withdraw from the large blue LED backlight, general lighting applications, to four yuan, the vehicle is not visible light, Mini LED and other niche products, or VCSEL, GaN HEMT and other optoelectronic semiconductor products.

PIDA said, according to the statistics in 2017 the global regional LED components industry output value reached $18 billion 500 million, with 8% of the output growth rate in recession situation two years ago. The mainland LED element output in the global market share reached 28%, the annual growth rate of 25%, among the regional global growth of 14%; Europe, other area is roughly equal.

In Taiwan, 2017 LED element value of about $3 billion 700 million. But the manufacturers have started to adjust the product mix, backlight and lighting applications to reduce or even withdraw from the lower margin large blue LED product proportion, an increase of four yuan, the vehicle is not visible light, Mini LED and other niche products.

Several other manufacturers will be extended further to VCSEL, GaN HEMT components MOCVD epitaxial technology, from a professional LED company extended to optoelectronic semiconductor components manufacturing business.

PIDA further pointed out that the LED industry in the mainland has advantage in lighting, panel backlight, LED terminal application, and with the fermentation element nationalization effect, the mainland LED element to champion in the world.

In contrast, the blue LED element in Taiwan area required for bulk applications no longer invest a lot of resources, and transferred to four yuan, the vehicle is not visible light, Mini LED, biomedical niche products, and will become the future focus on the development of LED industry in Taiwan area.

PIDA stressed that these niche applications is very extensive, many need for cross domain, cross industry cooperation, thus establishing cooperation platform, improve the efficiency of product development, accelerate the middle and lower reaches of the sea will be smooth development priorities.
