Renesas launched 5 LED drive chip to reduce power consumption by 20%

Renesas Electronics Corp announced before the launch of the RL78/I1A series of 5 16 bit microcontroller (MCU) chip. Package forms are 20 pins to 38 pins. Compared to Renesas electronics existing 78K0/Ix2 products, these chips to reduce power consumption when normal work of more than 20%.

The RL78/I1A series chip has low cost, high color dimming and color temperature control performance to meet the needs of a variety of lifestyle. RL78/I1A series chips also support remote centralized control communication standards.

Compared to RL78/Ix2 products, these RL78/I1A series chips have a higher PWM dimming capability. In addition, the RL78/I1A chip also includes a PWM output on / off control timer to achieve constant current mode or PWM dimming timing switch.

RL78/I1A series chip includes a programmable gain amplifier (PGA), the A/D converter input conversion level increased to 32 bits, high-precision LED current adjustment. It not only makes it possible to adjust the brightness, but also allows the use of smaller adjustment resistors, thereby helping to reduce the overall power consumption of the system.

RL78/I1A series chips are added to the PFC control function, which supports the alternating operation of lighting devices to improve power factor. The internal comparator and an interrupt pin are interlocked with the PWM timer, enabling efficient PFC control without the participation of the CPU.

RL78/I1A series chip provides overcurrent detection function, the use of the comparator overvoltage and overcurrent detection function, PWM timer will automatically stop the output. This function can prevent the lamp from being damaged.
