Samsung invested $773 million to expand memory chip production in Korea

Second global computer chip maker Samsung said on Monday that the company will invest 787 billion won ($773 million) to expand the memory chip production.

It is reported that Samsung's investment will be mainly used for Gihung and the city's DRAM memory chip and NAND flash memory chip production plant upgrades, and increase the production line of the two production plants. Samsung Electronics said that the investment is mainly in order to meet the market demand for NAND flash chip growing, and make the company's products more competitive.

Previously, the world's largest chip maker Intel and micron technology was announced last month, will invest $1 billion 200 million to set up a joint of a NAND flash manufacturing factory. The plant is expected to be formally put into production in early 2006.

In September this year, Samsung Electronics has announced plans to invest $33 billion over the next 7 years for semiconductor research and production lines. According to the long-term investment plan, Samsung said it intends to add a chip in the city of R & D plant and 8 chip production line. The new production line, Line 15, is expected to start construction in the first half of next year.
