Seoul signed a cross licensing agreement with Nichia semiconductor

Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd and Japan Nichia Corporation is the two competing LED manufacturer, in February 2, 2009, the two companies announced to stop all patent lawsuit cases in the United States, Germany, Japan, Britain, South korea. The cross license agreement covers the LED and LD (laser diode) technology, which will allow both parties to use each other's patent without limit.

According to the terms of the agreement, except in Germany DE 691-07-630 T2 (EP 0-437-385 B1) patent cases, the two sides will withdraw as soon as possible through mutual way to stop all other patent litigation. To solve the ruling of hearing will be held on February 2009 on the German patent cases.

The deal is another big move following the signing of several cross licensing agreements between big companies by the end of 2008. In November 2008, Seoul and Australia LED semiconductor manufacturer Tridonic company signed a cross licensing agreement with Japan Nichia Sharp Co signed an agreement. In December, Cree signed an agreement with the U.S. LED manufacturer Bridgelux to resolve the differences between the two companies.
