Silicon based gallium nitride: integrated optical logic chip

Singapore uses Ace strong system to promote low energy consumption electronic system (LEES) project in order to achieve energy efficiency

By the Singapore Massachusetts Institute of Technology alliance research and Technology Center (SMART) low energy electronic systems (LEES) launched a research program on the conference was held before the start, start the research work. The research team, led by renowned experts in the field of science and technology, aims at the development of the industry of high energy efficiency and complementary microelectronics. The project manager earlier this year ordered two 1x200 mm specification Ace CRIUS LEES system will provide a technical basis for the project. These two systems will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2012.

SMART is by the Singapore National Research Foundation of a cooperative organization established jointly with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the goal is the silicon substrate III-V elements technology development and utilization has unlimited potential, the optical and electronic components integrated into one chip at a low cost way. The research team plans to develop new materials, processes, and integrated circuits that can be used on 200 mm compliant, CMOS compatible silicon wafers before 2016.

Lead researcher Professor Eugene A. Fitzgerald from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of materials science and engineering as a project, and from the Nanyang Technology University Department of electrical and electronic engineering Soon F. Yoon co chaired the project. Professor Fitzgerald said: "given the growing scarcity of energy stocks, we face a huge challenge, the need for practical, high-performance and low-power integrated circuits. "Therefore, the field of research also includes solutions to improve energy efficiency through the latest most efficient storage devices, such as supercapacitors and nano batteries.

Heuken, vice president of Ace's strong R & D MichaEL professor LEES was appointed member of the scientific advisory committee. "LEES combines the advantages of the III-V semiconductor with the existing silicon technology," he said. Our main goal is to integrate LED, lasers and power semiconductors on large industrial silicon wafers. "

Researchers on the silicon based CMOS integrated circuit for the integration of aluminum nitride gallium indium gallium phosphide and gallium phosphide and other III-V semiconductor, and the development of energy-saving technologies, with high expectations. In the future, the new circuit design will be applied to the multi color LED display innovation, for mobile phones, televisions, computers and other equipment, and is widely used in printing, power electronics and LED lighting industry.

Singapore has a very broad silicon semiconductor industry. Excellent research and technology enterprises (Campus for Research Excellence, and Technological Enterprise (CREATE)) is recognized as the leading professional in Southeast Asia Research Center, which is committed to actively promote international cooperation between research institutions. LEES is the fifth interdisciplinary research platform launched by SMART, the final results will be put into the local industrial production, so as to enhance its competitiveness, and create is of great significance in the semiconductor industry a new economic growth point.
